We Heal Ourselves. We Heal the World.
— Dr. Luna

Hi, I’m Dr. Laura Luna “Ana”

Through my journey with Indigenous practices, I woke up my ancestral memories and began weaving Indigenous wisdom teachings into my work as a psychologist. Grounding my healing work in the medicine wheel, has taken me to understand the many layers of transformative healing and the time and attention it requires to move stuck pain and trauma from the body, mind & spirit. Western scientific research of mindfulness, yoga, and Ayurveda substantiates the need for integrating the connection between body & mind, while addressing the emotional aspects of our experiences. The medicine wheel is used as a helpful mirror to assist us in navigating the process for healing. It is clear that mindfulness practices alleviate stress, accelerate healing and recovery processes & overall increase quality of life through experiencing joy, love and peace while the medicine wheel grounds us into the present moment while aligning us with the energies of all sacred directions.

My Educational & Personal Background

I grew up in San Bernardino, California where I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Spanish, & Master of Arts in General Experimental Psychology. My family is from Mexico, and my ancestral roots are from Zacatecas, Jalisco & Michoacán. My Indigenous ancestral lineages are Chichimeca & Purépecha and I claim my Native heritage through reconnecting with Indigenous wisdom and healing practices. I have a PhD in Counseling Psychology, and I am a certified yoga teacher (500 RYT) and Reiki Teacher & Practitioner, as well as a Practitioner Coach for SACRED energetic management programming. I was initiated in the shamanic tradition of the Munay-Ki and ordained to conduct ceremonial sweat lodges for women during my years of initiations and training in New Mexico & South America.

My Approach is WHOLE-LISTIC

Whether you can observe a thing or not depends on the theory which you use. It is the theory which decides what can be observed.

MIND-BODY-SOUL

Taking a whole-listic or holistic approach to wellness, is to examine the relationship between mind, body, emotions and the spirit and to consider how to make changes that will impact all levels. We often leave out this relationship and leave out the spiritual component. Our beliefs and the patterns they create are powerful driving forces of our energy. When we get stuck in patterns of behavior and emotion, our energy field also gets tangled up and recreating those negative or low vibrating patterns. Not only do we have to rewire the brain, but we also have to invite something greater than us into the journey. An element from the stars, the ancestors, the directions. Our connection to the Earth is a deep part of the healing too. That means our food habits and food sources also have to be addressed on some level. When we connect with the spiritual aspect, we can start to unravel some of the reasons why our physical body or our emotions or our soul expressions are creating suffering in some way. Our goal is to bring ease, alleviate suffering and bring in more peace and joy—on the path to self-actualization, empowerment & personal spiritual development; it may be helpful to have a teacher or helping hand along the way, a community or individual support. We all encounter many teachers on our sacred journey of life.

the medicine wheel

When we tune into the energies of the sacred directions and begin to honor their teachings, we begin to transform our lives to be in rhythm with nature. The elders talk about a time when all nations will come together for the healing of the Earth. We all have a place in calling the energies of the sacred directions, the North, the East, the South, the West, Down Below, Up Above & the Center to bring about harmony in mind, body, soul & spirit.

energy medicine

In life we can get stuck with difficult emotions, traumas, negative thinking patterns that keep us subdued in a low vibration that disallows us from moving forward in our healing path. Energy medicine tools can help us unlock those patterns and clear the way for creating the life we want to live. I use energy medicine with yoga, Ayurveda, Munay-Ki shamanic wisdom, Reiki, Intentional Healing Systems to support you in bringing about lasting change.

PSYCHOLOGY

I obtained my doctoral degree in Psychology in 2014. Afterward, I spent several years working in a university setting with college students with disabilities, providing accommodations & testing. The universe had other plans for me and I exited the academic system in 2019. Through my training and professional experience I learned that psychology helps us understand behaviors and how the mind can either help us or hurt us, many times driven by our early life experiences. People seek out therapy treatment when they get stuck in thought and behavioral patterns that cause distress in daily living. The field of psychology began integrating mindfulness and meditation practices through the work of people like Jon Kabat-Zinn and Dr. Daniel Siegel. With now decades of research in neuroscience, we know we can change our brain, we can shift our mind and bring about deep levels of peace and relaxation through Eastern practices of meditation and yoga. In my work as a wellness coach, I integrate psychology to support clients in clearing the path for a balanced life and well-being in not just the mind and emotions, but the spirit and body using Indigenous practices, energy medicine, and Eastern practices.
